Summer Smoky Mountain Mini Session at a Nature Trail | Gatlinburg Family Photography
While many people take advantage of the portrait sessions I offer at overlooks throughout the Smokies because of their stunning mountain views, I’m a huge fan of nature trail sessions during summer and fall.
The nature trail greenery and fall foliage are absolutely beautiful, but there are other reasons why these sessions are great for small families!

Nature trail sessions tend to feel a lot more peaceful and intimate. Capturing your memories with the people you love is a special experience. I find that photographing you in a more secluded location can help you feel more relaxed and children more focused. It’s also nice outlet after dealing with tons of foot and vehicle traffic during our business months here in the Smokies!
flexible scheduling
Nature trail sessions are ideal for families who want morning session, but aren’t necessarily early birds or households that need to maintain an early bedtime. The leaves provide wonderful coverage from the sun, which often eliminates the need for a golden hour session within 1 hour of sunrise/sunset.

In my opinion, nature trails offer so much variety! If you don’t mind having a similar backdrop in every photo this probably isn’t a concern for you. Personally, I love when the galleries I deliver to clients include a mixture of scenery.

I find that many children love exploring nature trails. While I still provide prompts and posing ideas, sometimes the candids of your little ones enjoying their time in the great outdoors are the most precious moments!

While there are many perks that come with documenting your memories at a Smoky Mountain nature trail, I do not think these sessions are ideal for everyone.
If anyone in your family has mobility issues, a nature trail may not be the best selection. Though the one I recommend to my clients is paved, these sessions do include a bit of walking.
I currently do not offer nature trail sessions for groups larger than 7 people. This is to work around parking limitations and to limit interruptions to hikers/visitors who simply want to enjoy the trail.
