A Cloudy Morning, a Windy View, and One Perfect "Yes" on Foothills Parkway
Apparently, when I was pretending to be a nature photographer—just casually capturing the views at the photo spot Katelyn and I had discussed for weeks—Jeanna thought it would be cute to ask me to take a photo of the two of them. 😅 She had no clue what was coming.
The funny part? Katelyn kept insisting they leave me alone, and poor Jeanna couldn’t figure out why her girlfriend was acting so weird about a “random” photographer at the overlook. Little did she know, she was literally minutes away from getting proposed to.
Yep—after months of planning, hiding the ring, and keeping this whole thing a secret, Katelyn was about to pop the question right there on a quiet overlook along Foothills Parkway.
Even with the cloudy skies and gusts of wind, it was the kind of morning that just felt special. Spring was just starting to wake up—the trees had little pops of green coming in, and the mountains had that dreamy, moody look the Smokies are famous for. And best of all? We had the entire spot to ourselves.
As a Gatlinburg photographer, there are moments you hope for…and this was definitely one of them. Katelyn dropped to one knee, and Jeanna’s reaction was everything—surprised, teary-eyed, laughing, hugging, all the emotions. The quiet mountain backdrop made it feel like the rest of the world had paused just for them.
After the big “yes!” we wandered around a little more, soaking in the view (and the new fiancée energy 😍). The joy between them was unreal—like, if you could bottle that feeling and keep it forever, you would.
I’ll never get tired of being part of these kinds of moments. Whether it’s a surprise proposal, an engagement session, or just capturing a couple being their goofy, in-love selves in the Smokies, this is the magic that keeps me coming back.
