Graduation Session Tips | Knoxville Senior Photographer

Photography

Senior portraits aren’t just a way to celebrate an exciting milestone.

Years from now when you’re in a different chapter of your life, looking back on your graduation photos is going to send you through a wave of memories and emotions. Some happy will be happy, some will be sad, but all are precious because they’re a part of your story.

Here are a few tips to ensure your graduation session goes as smoothly as possible!

TIPS FOR YOUR SESSION

The standard/full session is highly recommended for grads. It includes enough time for 2-3 outfits depending on the location and amount of walking involved.
My seniors will usually pick one casual outfit and a formal/cocktail attire option, but that’s totally up to you! Some like to bring school gear as well. Bring comfortable walking shoes no matter what you wear!
Capturing cap and gown portraits is optional! I recommend steaming your gown if you plan to accessorize with it!
You can bring props like your study books or tools you might use in your field (i.e. teacher – apple, doctor – stethoscope, etc)
The best locations are the ones that mean something to you! If you’re not a fan of your campus, what are other places you like to spend time? (i.e. downtown, the local park, near the mountains or a lake, etc)

Schedule your session close to sunrise or sunset for soft natural lighting. The golden hour glow is my favorite in graduation photos!

If you plan to bring champagne and don’t have experience opening the bottles, make sure you get one with a top that twists off. They’re much easier!

I ask that any props be environmentally friendly (i.e. biodegradable confetti)
